If you’re in the European Union, please tell us your TIN (Tax Identification Number) if you have one, when ordering. We will pass this along to Fedex; this will speed up customs clearance, so that Fedex knows properly how to tax you. Quality customer service is extremely important to us. One aspect to this level of quality is that we want you to *understand* the terms of sale! Therefore, we have written them in clear English instead of Legalese! Please read them below.
RetroFreedom operates in the UK. We have shipped products internationally for years, successfully. We have a great deal of knowledge and experience! Very few of our customers are British! Most of our customers are Europeans and Americans; however, we also have experience shipping to Asia, Australia, Africa, Russia, South America and the Middle East! Our laptops have reached many people all over the world.
The purpose of this document is 1) To define your rights as a consumer, and 2) Explain (clearly and logically) how international shipping works, when you order from RetroFreedom. We have taken every step to make the process as easy as possible!
The laptops that we sell come with battery charger PSUs that are 120-240V auto-switching, so they will work automatically in all countries. We provide multiple power plugs for different countries, so that our laptops work properly in all countries.
Terms and Conditions of sale
All physical products listed on RetroFreedom.com are fully packed, ready to ship before they go on sale. This ensures that we can provide fast and reliable shipping of orders. We pack our products in lots of bubble wrap in strong boxes, to keep the contents safe during shipping.
Goods/services are provided *only* after the payment is received for your order. When payment is received, we will provide the goods/services quickly, and without hesitation! We only use high quality Fedex shipping service.
After payment is received, your order will ship on the same day if it’s a business day, or the next business day if payment received outside of business hours. Here is a good approximation of the shipping times to expect (after your order is shipped):
- UK: 1-2 business days (RetroFreedom operates in the UK, so UK shipping is the fastest)
- EU: 2-5 business days
- USA/Canada: 2-5 business days
- Other countries: 5-10 business days
Other factors, such as customs, might stall the shipping by an average of 1-2 business days. Fedex provides excellent service, and has great experience dealing with customs in many countries, so our laptops arrive quickly.
Importing RetroFreedom products into your country
RetroFreedom is a VAT registered company in the UK (company info is at the bottom of every page on this website). We ship from our lab in the UK. To ensure that your package arrives safely, we use high quality packing material and an excessive amount of bubble wrap. Great care is taken, to ensure that your package contents survive international shipping!
The UK has left the EU Customs Union, as of January 1st, 2021. Customers in the EU now pay 0% VAT at checkout, and instead pay import VAT to their own government. Read below for more information.
RetroFreedom handles the export documentation for you automatically, so you don’t need to worry. When the goods arrive in your country, Fedex (delivery company) handles all tax paperwork for you automatically. You do not need to worry! Fedex will ask you to pay a small amount covering import tax for your country (it’s usually the same as local VAT / sales tax in your country), plus a small handling fee (e.g. €10 EUR, $12 USD) to support Fedex’s cost of completing the tax paperwork for you. Fedex handles everything for you, to make your life easy! Payment is done via debit/credit card, on the phone or via Fedex’s online system. When Fedex receives your payment, the package will arrive at your location quickly. Easy!
Different countries have different % percentage for the import tax. Please check your country’s rate! Here is a general idea of what to expect:
- European countries: near to 20% of sale value, plus or minus a few percentage points (different EU countries have different VAT percentages)
- Most other countries have similar percentage to European countries
- Some countries are closer to 10% (e.g. Australia, Switzerland)
- In most states of USA, it’s closer to 5%!
- Some countries don’t even charge import tax! (or it is often not enforced)
These import taxes are similar to local VAT or sales tax. Additionally, some countries might impose *tariffs*, usually between 2-5% of the sale value. UK and EU have a free trade deal. If you’re in the EU, you only pay import VAT and 0% tariff charge. UK/EU have tariff-free trade with each other. USA/Canadian customers importing laptops only pay sales tax (zero-tariff trade).
RetroFreedom is not responsible for your tax (if we are exporting products to your country). You must pay the import tax yourself. We do not control it. Tax is specified by your government, and Fedex handles the paperwork for you to make things easier.
2 year warranty and 30 day money back guarantee
If what you ordered develops a fault or is dead on arrival, you can return it within 2 years from the day it arrived at your specified shipping address. Please tell us before sending it back, and preferably tell us the tracking number (use tracked shipping!). In the package, include a note specifying your name and original order number. At your option, we will reimburse your shipping costs up to a maximum of £25 GBP (25 Pound Sterling) or the value on your shipping receipt, whichever is lower.
When you return the product and it arrives at RetroFreedom’s lab within the 2 year warranty period, you have 3 choices: 1) Refund or 2) We fix the fault and send it back to you, or 3) we send you a full replacement product.
In addition to the above terms: after you placed your order, you can cancel your purchase at any time, for any reason, and receive a full refund, for a maximum of 30 days after the day you placed your order. After the product arrives, this 30 day period is extended by however many days it took for the product to arrive as per Fedex tracking record. For example, if you order a laptop on August 1st and it arrives on August 10th, the 30 day guarantee does NOT end on August 31st, instead it will end on September 10th.
If you cancel and the product is en route to your location (has been shipped), we will instruct the courier to reverse the shipment (it might still arrive at your location). If the product is in your possession, you must ship it back to us.
Refunds, repairs and/or product replacements are only provided when the original product is at RetroFreedom’s business premise. This means that if you currently hold the product, you must ship it back and it must arrive at RetroFreedom’s place of business.
That is actually one of the reasons you should buy from us, because we give you this choice! There are other companies on the internet that will legally require you to pay. We don’t believe in that. We believe you have the right to change your mind at any time, subject to the 30 day money back guarantee defined above. We want you to keep the laptop and continue using it because you *love* it, and because you choose to, so we try our best to provide the highest quality service!
If we fix/replace a broken/faulty product during this 2 year warranty period, the warranty period will be extended by an additional 6 months. If fixed/replaced for a second time after that, we will extend the warranty period by a further 3 months, and we will not extend further than that. Most of our customers don’t need to send it back! Their laptops are still working just fine, 5 years later!
Finally, we do not discriminate based on race, gender identity, ethnicity, political affiliation or other metric. We only sell laptops 🙂 The only thing we care about is running an efficient business operation and providing you quality goods/services in a timely manner!
